The most important points in brief
Neck pain is usually caused by daily overuse - not by a single event.
Chiropractic treats the cause in the nervous system and joints - not just the pain.
If you sleep in the wrong position at night, you may partially undo the treatment success achieved during the day.
The right sleeping position and an ergonomic pillow can make all the difference.
Imagine you go to the chiropractor. The treatment helps. You feel better. Two weeks later, the pain is back.
Many people know this. And that's exactly what, after years in practice, led me to a different approach. One that not only treats - but understands.
The Problem: We Fight Symptoms, Not Causes
Neck pain, tension, throbbing headaches - they rarely arise overnight. And they rarely disappear permanently if you only address where it hurts.
In my practice, people come every day who have been everywhere. Physio, massage, painkillers. That helps in the short term - but the cause remains. My goal is to find out why the pain arises. Not just: where it is.
How I begin a treatment
When someone comes to me for the first time, they might expect a brief conversation and then direct treatment. Instead, I spend a lot of time listening.
How do you sleep? How do you sit at work? Do you have morning stiffness? When is the pain worst? How long has it been?
Pain is a signal, not a coincidence. It shows me where the body is currently struggling. But it doesn't automatically show me why. I have to find that out.
Only then does the physical examination begin. I check muscle tone, joint mobility, posture standing and in motion. I look at how someone turns their head, how their shoulders hang, whether one side carries more tension than the other.
"In my practice, I see people with chronic neck pain every day. Often, an incorrect pillow is the cause. With the right tool, we can continue at night in your home what we achieved in the practice during the day."

The Chiropractic Method: What Happens in the Body
Chiropractic works with the nervous system. The basic idea: If vertebral joints are restricted in their movement - due to poor posture, stress, one-sided strain or old injuries - this affects the signals flowing through the nervous system.
This can manifest as:
Neck and shoulder pain
Numbness or tingling in the arm
Chronic tension that won't go away
Headaches originating from the neck
Morning stiffness that only resolves after hours
The chiropractic adjustment - the so-called adjustment - releases precisely these blockages. Targeted, at a specific angle and with a controlled impulse. This is not cracking on a whim, but a precise technique based on the findings.
Many are startled by the sound. But the cracking is just gas escaping from the joint space - like cracking knuckles. The moment after is crucial: the body can move properly again.
Targeted treatment of the cervical spine
What many don't know: Sleep makes the difference
In my years of practice, I've observed this repeatedly: patients who are well-treated during the day sleep in exactly the position that caused their symptoms at night.
I can do a lot in the practice. But if someone sleeps for eight hours with their head improperly supported, it's like two steps forward, one step back. The body doesn't get to regenerate.
What makes a good sleeping position:
Side sleepers need more pillow height - the head should be in line with the spine, not hanging down or tilting sideways.
Back sleepers need less height, but support for the natural curve of the neck.
The pillow should not be too soft - the head should be supported, not sink in.
Anyone who wakes up with stiffness in the morning should consciously observe their own sleeping position.

What you can do yourself
Chiropractic treatment is not available to everyone at all times. But the principles can be applied in everyday life:
Be aware of your posture. You don't have to sit perfectly - but regularly change your position. No body is built for hours of motionless sitting. Just getting up briefly every 30 minutes is enough.
Pay attention to your sleeping position. Side sleepers need more pillow height than back sleepers. The pillow should keep your head and neck in alignment - not allow them to tip up or down.
Take morning stiffness seriously. If you regularly wake up stiff, you are probably sleeping in a suboptimal position. This can be changed.
Movement as medicine. Short breaks, stretches, shoulder rolls - are often enough to interrupt chronic tension before it sets in.
Conclusion: Understand pain instead of masking it
My approach can be summarized in one sentence: Understand the body before you treat it.
This is not a revolutionary idea. But in the fast-paced world of painkillers and 15-minute appointments, it has become rarer than it should be.
WirbelFit is an attempt to translate this thinking into products - for everyday life, for home, as a complement to what good chiropractic treatment achieves.
